I spend a decent portion of my time looking under stones within my client’s organisations and seeing what is lurking beneath.
Sometimes it is not pretty. Some of it needs changing and some of it needs eliminating.
The good thing about being detached and objective is that I can make suggestions that people within the business don’t want to make.
Suggestions with consequences that are hard to accept. Decisions that are hard to make and actions that are hard to execute.
But just because it is hard, doesn’t mean that it is not the right thing to do.
Gather data points, draw conclusions, make decisions (based on both evidence and gut), set actions and then execute.
When things are not pretty, more of the same is just not an option.
