In my experience working across different industries and different companies I observe a common limitation.
Benchmarking against the competition.
While it can be useful to know what your industry peers are up to, don’t make the mistake of focusing on what they are doing and letting that determine or influence how you do things.
“Competition is good.” Really? For consumers; But not for companies.
Use your competition to innovate and disrupt. But don’t focus on what they are doing and how they do.
Instead focus on what you are doing, on how you will shake up the industry, on your unique “personality”; be different not for differences sake but because you and your organisation are not your competition.
Look at your industry; is everyone doing much of the same thing?
Stop being a carbon copy of your competitors.
